Connor's donation to Locks of Love

Three years ago my son Connor decided he wanted to grow his hair and donate it to "Locks of Love".

Locks of Love is a program where you can donate your hair towards wigs for children that are in Cancer treatment. It can take 18 ponytails to make 1 child's wig, so donations are desperately needed!

This week Connor decided it was time to make the appointment and yesterday, with Jessica's help Connor had his locks chopped. We found the experience an emotional one! Connor said he'll miss his long hair but he felt so good inside being able to help another child with a wig. He's even expressed doing it again in the future!

Boy, our children really do teach us....as much as we do our best to guide them through their journeys....they sure enrich and guide us as parents! Connor has taught Scott and I so much about life, laughter and most importantly LOVE!!

This year we found the Grand Daddy of Reindeer to put in our front garden. We had to hook up the trailer to bring him home. We just love it!! I put fresh greenery around his neck with a giant bow! At night a large spot light shines on him...now if we could get a little snow??

Yesterday I had the great privilege of meeting Alan Frew. Many of you will recognize him from the band Glass Tiger. Alan arrived at Connor's school to give a motivational speech where he inspired all of us to never give up on your dreams!
I'm telling you, I walked out of the school gym feeling "the joy rising"....as Oprah would say! Alan shares his inspiring story of how he left Scotland with his family and came to Canada. Even as a young boy, he learned the power of "intention". He wrote a fabulous book called The Action Sandwich which promises to motivate and inspire you to follow your dreams and never give up!

For years I have always shared with my friends and family the amazing fact that Micheal Jackson did NOT know how to write or read music......look at what he accomplished?
Well Alan Frew, also shares this fact with the kids....he did not know how to read or write music and yet he became one of the world's leading song writers. Alan wrote the song I BELIEVE for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics!! The whole world knows that song and he had all the kids in our gym singing it with him!

Never let obstacles stand in your way of what you believe and who you want to be! Live your greatest life! Dream Big! Always follow your heart and live each day with Love and good intentions.....what you will receive back is even more love than you ever imagined!

Well its the day before Halloween and we are busy preparing for the big day!! 2 weeks ago my hubby Scott and I started building our Halloween Scarecrow. We used sticks, grapevine, burlap, spray paint and gauze. Our inspiration came from a Tim Burton piece we admired at one of his exhibits in Toronto. So STAY TUNED TOMORROW for the finished piece.....WE are carving the head right now!

Hi everyone; I took some photos last week for our Canadian Thanksgiving! I like this shot of the fun glass pumpkin lanterns hanging in our back deck area.

There is something so magical and beautiful about the Grizzly Bear. I have had the unique experience of seeing them in the wild when we lived out in the Canadian Rockies.

Well here we are approaching September, getting the kids ready for school and I can already smell Fall in the air. I have neglected my blog, but to tell you the truth, I just needed a break from it all. As much as I love my online world and staying in touch with my creative FB friends and so on, it was time to just enjoy everything around me. The sun, the sand, family, friends and fun! Sure I've been in the studio working hard on several deadlines but the beauty of my licensing world is being able to just stop every now and then and spend time with my amazing family! They help me focus and get inspired to create and paint again!

I'm looking forward to Fall, the crisp air, the pumpkins and squash, the homemade soups, the colors of the fall trees and all the new adventures my artistic world will bring me!

It's a beautiful life and I feel so blessed

We travelled 3 hours north this past weekend to visit our wonderful friends at The Atherley Cottage! Nestled on a hill top, looking out at the lake was a picturesque view from every angle!

The breeze was a little cool, but it didn't stop us all from having a fabulous time!

Fishing, boating, hiking through the woods, camp fires, good food, and friends....it was heaven!

Who knew smores tasted so good with red wine?? Perfection, I say!!!

Look out Atherley family...this Davis Family unit will be back many times.....Connor is still planning to live at your cottage and be "home schooled", LOL!!

Well the countdown is on...I will watch Oprah's last show in 55 minutes with my Mom and best friend Jill!! The wine and appetizers are ready....buy most of all the Kleenex!!

I am already a loyal OWN watcher, but I feel sad about losing The Oprah Show! I know she will still pop up now and then on OWN and I can't wait!!

Oprah came into my life the year my Dad passed away! I was 17 years old. She gave us all comfort, joy, tears, honesty, laughter and love!

Oprah I hope you are celebrating tonight, surrounded by all your friends and family!! You deserve it girl!! Enjoy this next chapter...embrace the summer and see the world!!!

Weekend Project

This past weekend I decided to work on a couple things for the house and take a break from the Studio. Above are pictures from a mirror I made. I used gel medium to attach brown paper bags to the frame and then I printed a number of images with my color printer to create a mixed medium mirror. I used old stamps, tags, postcards, paper, quotes etc...everything I like to create a conversation piece on my dining room. I also made the little bird to hang in the bird cage.....now I'm working on a large painting for the family! Stay tuned!!

Our Tim Burton experience!!

This morning we headed into downtown Toronto to see The Tim Burton exhibit which returns to New York after April 17th. My hubby Scott, my son Connor and myself are big Tim Burton fans! We were mesmerized, viewing sketches from Tim's days in school to concept drawings from his days at Disney! We were told his Mom collected and saved many pieces which contributed to this exhibit.

We loved seeing character models in glass cases from his movies! Our favorites were from The Nightmare before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, Edward Scissorhands and or course Vincent!

Truly inspirational and eclectic! If you have a chance to see the show, don't miss it!

My Creative Co-op samples arrived!!

Yesterday my Creative Co-op samples arrived!! I was so excited!! They chose my "Ocean Series" and "A Mother's Heart Collection" to create wonderful products like the canvas wall art, fabric journals, glass magnets and the beautiful glass bowl with stand! When I created this piece called "Imprint on my heart" I was trying to convey how we all feel when we have a child. How our children leave imprints on our hearts forever. Last week I watched the story of a beautiful couple named Carolyn and Sean Savage. They have a heart wrenching story about a child they conceived through invetro fertilization. Their courage and journey moved me to tears. Carolyn made a comment on one of the show about how this beautiful child left an imprint on her heart forever! This immediately prompted me to send them an email so I could send them my Imprint on my heart print! You must read their story Inconceivable.....it will stay with you forever! When I was in the hospital last week, my son Connor made these wonderful wire figures for me.
It's a man with his sitting dog and a giraffe. He asked Daddy for some wire and a pair of pliers.
I was so thrilled with this amazing gift....it brought me to tears!

It's so exciting when you flip through a magazine and there's your artwork and designs. It gives me butterflies in my tummy every time! LOL!

My Hysterectomy Experience

So I was wondering whether I should post about my Hysterectomy or not? But I decided "why not". It was the first surgery I ever had and I was scared to death! It seems that when I hit my 40's things sure started to change with my body! Harder to lose weight, wrinkles started to appear and all of a sudden my periods were "insane"! Yes I said "periods" on my blog! My cramps were so bad I thought I was 16 again?? What the heck?
So after a year of issues which ended up stemming from fibroids, my Dr said it was time for a hysterectomy.
I jumped on the computer and educated myself on what I needed to know. I wrote down a ton of questions and armed myself for my next Dr visit. Dr Oz also dedicated an entire show on the subject which I found very helpful!
So what did I do next......I threw a party and decided to call it "Bonvoyage to my Uterus" or as I called her "Pinky". I had a handful of my closest girlfriends and we toasted to "Pinky"!
Last Thursday was the day of my surgery and I'm so glad its all behind me now. I know that I need to listen to everyone and be patient with the healing process. I can't lift or bend over at this point but I'm walking a little bit everyday and doodling in my sketchbook. I am so blessed with the friends and family I have all around me! So much love and support! My hubby and son have been so attentive and sweet with me.....as they always are but more so now with their concern for my speedy recovery! My Mom and Sister arrived everyday to help out with meals, cleaning, Connor and just great chats through out the day! Last but not least my girlfriends showered me with flowers, gifts, love and even dinners just to help out!! How can I thank you all enough?? My heart is truly bursting with love for everyone that surrounds me!!
So for any woman about to go through this experience or for any woman that already has, its just another step in our lives that we can share together as women! We are strong...we are invincible.......we are WOMAN!!
So I say goodbye to cramps.....goodbye to achy body parts....goodbye to headaches.....goodbye to tampons and big bulky pads and most of all.....goodbye to Granny Panties!!!
I'm a whole new woman now!!!

A snow filled weekend with family!

This weekend we filled the jeep with Christmas presents and headed down to Trenton and Stirling where Scott's family lives. Yes, I said Christmas presents! Over the holidays the kids were sick so we were unable to get together.....finally we scheduled a weekend where everyone was feeling good and it was time to open presents, play in the snow and eat Nana's apple pie!!
We had a fabulous time and Connor was so thrilled to be with his cousins Hunter, Carter and Keaton!

A waffle breakfast in Atlanta

My BFF's Paula Joerling and Tom Haney made a scrumptious waffle breakfast for us on Sunday morning. Paula's good friends Lori Seibert and Chad Barrett joined us! We had a wonderful morning together sharing all the news from the show! Paula and Tom's studio loft in downtown Atlanta is full of unique and artistic elements everywhere you look! I always come home totally inspired!!

Our dear friend Oscar in his High Design showroom. Oscar beautifully designs each mirror and has clients all over the world.

We had so much fun at our Blossom Bucket signing on Friday evening. Dan DiPaolo and I did a duet and had our signings together! We had a blast and enjoyed meeting everyone that stood in line to receive one of my angel ornaments and Dan's whimsical hen on an egg!

Hi everyone; I have received a number of emails asking me about my Santa's Socks pieces. This was a painting I did a couple years ago that still gets a lot of attention. Christmas Open house weekend!

I held my annual Christmas Open house this weekend for my family and friends. We sold most of my 2010 Christmas pieces from Blossom Bucket, along with my Christmas mugs from Evergreen Enterprises, stationary from Legacy and flags from Toland Home and Garden.
I turn the front area of our home into a Christmas store for the weekend.

I made this lodge Santa years ago. He's displayed on top of

our large wood cabinet.

I made this Snow Sleigh years ago too. He sits on our kitchen table.

Our family room is small so we use a tall slim Christmas tree. I used an antique sleigh under the tree to gain more height.

My hubby and I made 2 large birch arrangements for outside. One sits at the front door and the other is on our back porch. They look beautiful at night with the white lights wrapped amongst the branches. We hung large pinecones with lodge ribbon above the arrangements.

Our front porch was draped with real pine, large pinecones and lodge ribbon.

My Polar Peace mat from Evergreen Enterprises greets my guests.

Christmas Open House Saturday

Well I have been busting my butt this week preparing for my Annual Christmas Open House. I'm almost ready, just some last minute tidying to do tomorrow. The entire front room of my home is filled with hundreds of pieces from my 2010 product lines. Many from my Resin figural lines with Blossom Bucket. I can't wait to show all my family and friends!

Artist Gathering 2010!

I have returned from our Artist Gathering organized by my wonderfully talented BFF Dan DiPaolo! We met over the weekend in Milwaukee, WI. It was a weekend full of sharing and laughter! Our incredibly talented group met with Legacy Publishing and Sunset Vista Designs.

Both graciously presented their company info and took the time to meet with each of us individually. From there we all shared our portfolios, family pictures, licensing stories and online trials and tribulations! LOL

It was a weekend I will cherish forever!

Ned Young and I with his amazing children's book "Zoomer". Ned signed it especially for my son Connor. Zoomer's second book will be out spring 2011 and I can't wait for the special Christmas edition coming soon!

Ned has won a prestigious children's book illustration award and has a display in NY!

Here is my October Angel of Abundance. It's a sneak peek at one of the images in my 2012 Heaven on Earth calendar with Legacy Publishing. Yes, it's for 2012 but it will hit the stores next summer/fall and I can't wait!! All of the angels in the calendar have been beautifully created in resin with Blossom Bucket.
I'm also thrilled to annouce that many of the Angels are being created in tin and wood with Sunset Vista Designs....to be unveiled in 2011!

Canadian Thanksgiving!

The table is set for our Thanksgiving and it's such a beautiful day! Connor made little place settings for each plate! My Mom and sister will arrive this afternoon. We'll enjoy some appetizers and drinks on the patio and probably have a couple games of badminton!

The turkey is in the oven, yum....I can't wait!!

Monsters all around!

Here's a little snap shot of my Monster designs that are propped in the studio.

I made the little paper mache monsters last year and the mini paintings on easels are gifts from my son.

I fill my studio with things that make me smile. Items that inspire me!

There are also samples of my products everywhere, some that did well and some that didn't...but I love them all!! They were all labours of love!! Every project is a learning

experience a way to grow and blossom as an artist! Some of my best designs have come from mistakes I made in other paintings!! I'm never afraid to make those mistakes or take a few risks.

A true artist will never follow the same path....explore the creative heart that lies within!!

Cortland apples...my fav and then walked through an area outside where all the animals are.

We had so much fun!

Back to School!!

Well back to school today! The start of Grade 5! Connor was thrilled to see all his friends again!

His long hair was sure a topic of conversation, LOL!

I always have mixed feelings on this day. I come home and sit in the studio, only to miss the sounds of the the kids playing. I miss having my son running around the house and asking what's for lunch!

I'll be fine after today! Our regular routine will begin. But they are only young once and the truth is, the time flies!! I know the day is coming when he will stop holding my hand and roll his eyes if I kiss him in front of his friends, but until then..... I will enjoy every minute of it!!!

Back from our family weekend at the cottage. A little rainy but that didn't stop us from having fun! The boys did some fishing and Connor beat them all by catching the most fish! 11 in total! Here he is proudly showing the large Pike he caught! Good job buddy!!!

Martin Luther King's Home

I wanted to share these photos from my Atlanta trip. Each time I go, I try to do some site seeing. Atlanta has so much history! My wonderful friend Paula took me to the historic street where Martin Luther King was born and raised. It was very moving and you can't help but get emotional.

King is buried at what is now the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. The site includes the Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was a copastor with his father. King's tombstone is engraved with the words:
Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, I'm free at last.

Last night we decided to take a nice drive after dinner and ended up at the local icecream shop for a treat. As we left the shop, the colors in the sky were just breath taking. We ran home to grab the camera and drove to a spot just north of where we live to shoot these photos.

Nature's Blessings Collection with Blossom Bucket

Family Collection

Well I have returned from The Atlanta Gift Mart and the studio is absolutely crazy!

Crazy in a good way! Lots of art flying out the door with NEW companies that I am very excited to work with. I had such an incredible reaction to all my new work, including The Ocean Series, Mother's Heart, Family Dinner and more! I couldn't be more thrilled!

I did go snap happy and took a ton of pictures, so I promise to post over the next few days showing you all the fun we had.

Above are photos from my Blossom Bucket resin figure lines. There are NEW angels in the Nature's Blessings collection and on the top of the display are pieces from The Family collection which include a sentimental verse on each piece! The quality is beautiful and colors are wonderful! I couldn't be happier!

A NEW piece from my Mother's Heart Collection. "You make my heart big" is a little phrase our son Connor would say to my hubby and I when he was little. It would melt our hearts everytime! I included Connor's hand and foot prints within this collection.
I used the Mother and Son piece to make a special necklace for myself.

Creating with a full heart!

They have the most amazing loft right downtown Atlanta, close to the show! Paula holds an artist gathering which is always full of fun and giggles....we may even belt out a few show tunes! LOL

I wanted to share a couple new pieces with you. That's Charley pictured above, from a cat collection I finished. I also made a necklace which has been in my head forever and I finally made it! It's a black and white photo of my Dad holding me (the adorable baby) and my beautiful sister Al with her curly hair. It's a photo that is dear to my heart, as we lost my Dad 20 years ago! He would have been 76 this year. I think about him everyday!

A walk down the creek

Today we took a nice long walk down the creek. It's just a hop, skip and a jump from the house and even though it's in the city...we feel like we're out in the country! Connor and his buddy Tegan caught several crayfish and a few frogs. I let the boys have their fun and walked around snapping pictures and collecting things for my paintings! I love to make stamps from leaves, rocks, drift wood...whatever I can find in nature. Heart rocks will always make an apperance if you look closely...so make sure to carry a pencil and write a message for the next person out for a stroll!

Dixboro General Store Signing May 8th!

On friday May 7th my hubby, son and I began our road trip to The Dixboro General Store for my Mother's Day signing, in Ann Arbor, MI! We had such a wonderful time meeting the amazing team at Dixboro! We were blown away with the store and all it's beautiful giftware, furniture and home decor products! I can see why it's a favorite destination for many regulars!

The owners, Brenda and Steve are the nicest, most down to earth people who clearly put their heart and soul into the store! We enjoyed getting to know eachother over a fabulous dinner on friday night.

I want to send out a huge "Thank you" to all the wonderful people that ventured out to visit me at the store. I loved meeting and sharing stories about what my Nature's Blessings angels meant to you! I was touched by many of the stories!

Thanks again Brenda, Steve and the Dixboro Team for having me! I look forward to more signings in the future!

A weekend riding!

Spent the weekend with family! All the cousins were together playing and riding their 4-wheelers. Connor took a spin on one of the dirt bikes and fell in love!

Career Day at Orchard Park School

I was invited by The Orchard Park Public School to be a presenter at Career Day for the Arts!

I had a great time talking to the Grade 7 & 8's explaining what I do for a living and how art licensing works. I took a variety of my samples to show the kids. I remember that age, wondering what I wanted to be when I grow up. How stressful it can be to make big decisions on where to go to college or university. I wish someone had come to my school and talked about art licensing, photography, animation when I was in grade 7 or 8.

Thank you Orchard Park for having me! Follow your dreams everyone!! You can do anything you want....just believe!

Nature Babies

As spring seems to be in the air, I'm drawn to all things green, glorious and new! I sit in the studio staring out my large windows watching the squirrels collecting items for their nests. I can see all the robins searching for worms and the trees are budding with new leaves.
When I was a little girl, I would head into the forests beyond our cottage and picture a world of tiny people that lived amongst the trees, leaves, moss and mushrooms. So small, most people didn't even know they were there. Reflecting on my imagination as a child, usually ends up filling a sketchbook with doodles. So I wanted to share one of my "Nature Babies" with you. She is bundled up tight ready for a nap, holding on to her ladybug doll that her Grandma made.
So look closely as you begin to garden, there may be something wonderous living amongst your trees and flowers! Keep smiling, Robin

DIY Project with my Blossom Bucket Spring Flowers

Here is a fun idea from my son Connor. Take my spring flowers I designed for Blossom Bucket and using a fine tip permanent marker write a special message on the flower pot. Then clip your favorite photo to the pegs attached to the flowers. They would make perfect Mother's Day, Teacher, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles and Best Friend gifts!

Artist Gathering at DiPaolo Farm

Spring Bunnies!!

It's such a beautiful day today...warm and sunny! A perfect day to put all the Christmas lights away outside. Yes, I am one of those people that leaves their lights out as long as I can. There's nothing wrong with white mini lights to brighten up the front of your house during Jan and Feb when we all need a little "pick me up".

Easter seems to be approaching fast. It's one month away! We've enjoyed displaying my first collection of Easter pieces from Blossom Bucket around the house.
