Day 4 of the 5 Day Art Challenge

Goblin painting - mixed media - Robin Davis Studio

Monster - M is for Monster - Robin Davis Studio

Troll painting - T is for Troll - Robin Davis Studio
Well it's day 4 of the 5 Day Art Challenge. Each day I've been thinking about what art I want to post and share. As usual I keep coming back to my characters I love to create. It's all in the eyes...I've always said the eyes make or break your character...the most important part for me is getting the faces right. Sometimes it takes me hours or even days until I feel I've got the characters face the way I want it.
These prints are available in my SHOP. I'm also working on some jewellery using my characters that I think will be fun to sell. Hope you like them! Cheers Robin

Day 3 of the 5 day Art Challenge - Robin Davis Studio

Ink drawing Bird's Nest - Robin Davis Studio

Ink drawing Frog - Robin Davis Studio

Tree and old wood swing - ink drawing - Robin Davis Studio
Day 3 of The 5 Day Art Challenge - today I decided to share a few ink drawings from memories of my cottage when I was young. It's a place that draws so many wonderful memories for my sister and I. We loved swimming in the lake, catching frogs and tadpoles, swinging from the tree and just enjoying nature!
I love doing ink drawings...many times they end up as parts of my designs, incorporating backgrounds and textures with inspiring words.

Day 2 of the 5 day Art Challenge

Bite Me Monster - Robin Davis Studio

Feed Me Monster - Robin Davis Studio

Tickle Me Monster - Robin Davis Studio
It's day 2 of the Art Challenge and I've decided to stay within my Monster theme and share these funny little paintings I did a few years ago for my Monster items. At the time, I created these guys for children's ceramic plates. In the end they weren't produced, but I still love the illustrations! They make me giggle! Stay tuned for more tomorrow! Cheers Robin

The 5 day Art Challenge - Robin Davis Studio

Monster Bedtime - Robin Davis Studio Monsters - Little Monsters - Robin Davis Studio
Monster Spaceship - Planets - Universe - Robin Davis Studio
I was nominated by my friend Diane Duda for The 5 day Art Challenge. The challenge is to post 3 paintings every day for 5 days and nominate your fellow artists to participate each day.
Today is my first day, so I decided to post 3 paintings that started it all for me. Specifically the centre painting with the Monster Grouping. That painting launched my creative career and ended up being the cover of my very first Licensed calendar with The Lang Company.
These Monsters still hold a very special place in my heart! I loved the whole journey these little guys took me on. My style has changed and evolved but I knew when I finished these paintings that these characters were each a part of me.....the silly -the kind- the fun and the UNIQUE parts of me!

Throw Back Thursday Photo

Throw Back Thursday - Robin Davis Studio
Well look at my sister Al and I back in the day. Once again in matching outfits, LOL! I'm sure my Mom and Dad tried to get me to put down the shape sorted (made by Tupperware around 40 years ago and still going) but it looks like I won the battle and the toy ended up in the photo.
It makes the photo even more special for me. I love looking at these old photos of Al and I, thinking about where we lived at the time and what we were doing. I remember playing with our dolls and toys, reading books and wanting to play outside. We moved a lot, never in one house longer than 4 years, but we got to see Canada at it's best! My Dad's job required us to move at times and looking back, it really was fun. Of course at the time, as a kid, sometimes "change" throws you into a bit of a tail spin, but all those new adventures really shaped who Al and I are today!
Mom and Dad always wanted us to try new foods, see new things, learn how to ski and skate and swim and not be afraid! I think my Dad really wanted us to do all these things because he didn't...he didn't really know how to swim, skate or ski...Al and I didn't really realize this until later on, I think because we just thought he could DO ANYTHING!
Reflection makes sense, especially as parents. Now that my hubby and I are raising my son, who is about to turn 15 soon (Yipes) it all falls into place when I reflect on my childhood and try to figure out how to parent my child in this world we live in today. I know my parents wanted to give my sister and I all the experiences and knowledge to help us spread our wings...and I remember how cautious and protective they were of us. At times, it drove us nuts! What the heck were they so worried about...what could happen to us?? Well, I get it...I know I drive my son nuts now too. LOL!
So as he approaches 15 and I reflect, I know I have to just stand back at times and let him spread his wings. It's hard, but I'm trying...
